Confidence in Coaching, LLC is a Michigan based consulting company that provides engaging and interactive training and development for athletic coaches of all sports. The owner, Katherine Thomas, focuses on creating trainings that are relevant and current for coaches and provides support to owners and managers in meeting their training needs.
Katherine has been in the world of education for 13 years, spending her time teaching middle school science and coordinating the International Baccalaureate program. In her roles, Katherine has experience not only working with kids, but with adults as well. As the IB coordinator, she spent time teaching teachers how to lesson plan, create assessments, and write highly impactful lessons. She was responsible for ensuring the proper implementation of the IB program within the school, creating trainings and running meetings that would contribute to the success of the program.
As a teacher, Katherine thrived in the science classroom by creating lessons and labs that were hands on and interactive for the students. Discovering the way students best learn, her lessons evolved from a more traditional classroom environment to student-centered and collaborative based learning. During the pandemic, Katherine learned how to utilize technology to best educate students while they were away from the classroom. This required her to find tools that would allow her to continue her engaging approach to teaching, in a completely new environment. Doing this opened her eyes her to see all the ways technology can be used to enhance learning and growth.
In the world of athletics, Katherine has a variety of experiences as both an athlete and a coach. Growing up, she spent her free time in the gym as a competitive gymnast which led to her ten-year career as a gymnastics coach. Katherine has experience coaching recreational classes for all ages, compulsory teams, and Xcel teams. As the head coach of the Xcel program at her gym, she had several state champion athletes. As a parent, Katherine also had the opportunity to coach her son’s soccer team, furthering her knowledge of the world of coaching and giving her an experience with a sport other than gymnastics.
Katherine graduated from Oakland University in 2008 with a Bachelor’s Degree in Elementary Education and from Western Governor’s University in 2023 with a Master’s Degree in Learning Experience Design and Educational Technology, with a focus on adult learning.
